José Pedro Balmaceda Pascal (known in Spanish as [xo?se ?peð?o ?alma?seða pas?kal]; with a birthdate of April 2, 1975) is a well-known actor from Chile and the United States. After nearly two decades of small roles in both theater and TV, Pascal had his breakout role as Prince Oberyn Martell in the fourth installment of the HBO fantasy series Game of Thrones (in 2014). He gained further prominence with the character of Javier Peña in the Netflix crime series Narcos (between 2015 and 2017). Pascal subsequently appeared in the films *The Great Wall* (2016), *Kingsman: The Golden Circle* (released in 2017), *The Equalizer 2* (2018), and *Triple Frontier* (2019).
His starring roles as Din Djarin, also known as "The Mandalorian," in the Disney+ sci-fi series *The Mandalorian* (beginning in 2019 and still ongoing) and Joel Miller in the HBO post-apocalyptic drama *The Last of Us* (from 2023 onward) brought him international fame, earning him a reputation for portraying characters who act as father figures. For the latter role, he earned many awards, including a Screen Actors Guild Award and nomination at the Golden Globes. He took further parental roles in the movies such as *We Can Be Heroes* (from 2020), *Strange Way of Life* (2023), and as Fink the fox in *The Wild Robot* (scheduled for 2024). Pascal has also starred in major films such as *Wonder Woman 1984* (released in 2020) and *Gladiator II* (2024).
Involved in theater since 1999, he debuted on Broadway as Edmund in a 2019 adaptation of King Lear. He was named one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2023.
