Life in India’s Salt Desert: The Little Rann of Kutch UPSC
The Little Rann of Kutch, an extended saline desert of Gujarat, India is the best example to study how life sustains where the environment seems to be extremely hostile. This expansive salt desert with an area of about 5000 square kilometres is composed of a large area of White Salt Planes which get transformed into shallow saline wetlands with the arrival of the rainy season. Apart from the Indian wild ass, the region is under immense pressure from human activity and other related concerns.
